Do-it-yourself Mouthwash

You may have noticed by now that I simply like essential oils. Essential oils are natural, and you can use them in so many ways; they are disinfecting plus they don't go rancid in time.

Don't let their expensive price affect you since you can use just a little of them in many recipes. They make perfect sense when you are creating your own mouthwash.

You could make a homemade mouthwash that has ginger, oranges and cloves, but most of you won't go through that much trouble for a mouthwash that lasts for about a week in the fridge, and you will end up choosing the easy way out.

Thus, I want to make a recipe that is simple for both use and storage. You don't have to look too far.

Do it yourserlf mouthwash

Here is a recipe for mint mouthwash.

1 cup of water distilled, filtered, or boiled

2-3 drops of peppermint essential oil

Mix the ingredients in a clean bottle. Don't forget to shake before each use and don't swallow it even though it smells good.

When storing don't forget to keep it in a cabinet away from sunlight that causes essential oils to lose their properties.

Recipe for orange taste mouthwash

1 cup of boiled water
3 drops clove essential oil
2 drops orange essential oil
2 drops cinnamon essential oil
1 drop ginger essential oil

Do the exact process, mix the ingredients in a clean container, shake before each mouthwash and spit it out. You should store it in a cabinet away from sunlight.

Tips on the ingredients

To find out more about each essential oil just access the blue links.

Peppermint essential oil makes an excellent anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal and astringent mouth freshener

Clove essential oil reduces signs of inflammation; has antiseptic and antimicrobial properties that leave a fresh breath behind.

Ginger essential oil contains substances that fight against inflammations and swellings and has antioxidant properties. Besides all this, it kills or inhibits the growth of bacteria and stimulates the glands to produce more saliva which naturally prevents tooth decay, bad breath and gum diseases, and another unusual effect is the an aphrodisiac effect.

Cinnamon essential oil and orange essential oil have more than just a fine flavor; they are very effective in not only fighting against any swelling or infection symptoms, but they are preventing it too.

Other ingredients for mouthwash

Learn to improvise, don't limit yourself only to the oils I stated above. Feel free to choose any other essential oils since all of them have the disinfecting effect. Here are more tips on ingredients that you can use in your homemade mouthwash, these are just a few, and you can pick so many more.

Baking soda

Add 1/4 Tsp. of baking soda for 8 ounces of water to get rid of bad breath and to neutralize the acid. However, I don't know if it dissolves in water

Tea tree essential oil

Add about one drop of tea tree oil for 8 ounces of water. It has antibacterial, antiseptic, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effect.

Myrrh essential oil

Add 1-2 drops of myrrh for 8 ounces of water. Due to its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiseptic and astringent effect it is widely used in oral hygiene products.

You can save some money in the process

Besides being alcohol and chemical free, these substances are almost free.
